Huntington County's unemployment rate falls in August

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released its August unemployment report, and the rate for Huntington County fell from 9.4% in July to 7.1% in August, the lowest rate this year.

"The report is very encouraging news for Huntington County," said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development. "Our rate temporarily increased in June and July as the result of events at the Unilever plant and model-year changeover and inventory processes at area automotive and other plants. The significant improvement in August reconfirms those dynamics as well as hiring activities in other plants."

The report also indicates Huntington County's rate is below the statewide average of 7.5%.
