Local Incentives

Expanding? Relocating? Starting a new business? At Huntington County Economic Development, you'll find a range of local incentives to help make your project a success.

Tax Abatement
Local units of government in Indiana can offer abatement of real property tax liabilities related to building improvements for manufacturing, distribution, warehousing and research and development facilities for a maximum of ten years and can do the same for investments in business personal property. The practical impact allows clients to “phase-in” their property tax liabilities over a period of time by discounting the assessed values of their investments and utilizing depreciated values as full taxation occurs.

LIT/CEDIT Grants
Local units of government have limited grant funds available via the revenues from Local Income Tax (LIT) formerly known as the County Economic Development Income Tax (CEDIT). Grants can be used toward infrastructure and building improvements resulting in the creation of new jobs within Huntington County. This program is often, but not exclusively, made available in lieu of tax abatement.

Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) Districts
TIF districts are already established in many areas of Huntington County. This program creates the opportunity to capture the incremental growth in tax revenues from new capital investments in order to finance bond(s) necessary to develop the public infrastructure which might be required in support of private industrial developments.
Industrial Revenue Bonding
Available on a very limited basis. Eligibility connected to major job creation and major capital investments within Huntington County.

Opportunity Zone
The City of Huntington does have an approved Opportunity Zone per the new program recently created by the Trump Administration. Investors would able to explore the potential capital gains savings for properties within the zone.
