Unemployment Numbers Improve

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released the February unemployment numbers for the county and state today.  The Huntington County unemployment rate improved to 9.9 percent from 11.5 percent in January.  Huntington is slightly over the state rate of 9.4 percent despite this improvement.  The state unemployment number is down a tick from 9.5  while the United States rate also dropped from 9.8 percent to 9.5 percent for the month of February.

It is important to note that the State’s unemployment statistics are based on the worker’s county of residence, not the county of employment.
The state’s report also includes the following disclaimer, “These estimates are prepared in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and have been adjusted to the current population survey for use in allocating federal funds.  Because of regular fluctuations in month to month changes, the reader should use caution when viewing these estimates as indicators of economic change.”
