Huntington County Unemployment Rate Drops in November

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released the November 2009 unemployment rate figures today.  Huntington County's unemployment rate for the period October 11 - November 10, 2009 improved 1.4% to 11.2% compared to 12.6% for the period September 11 - October 10, 2009 according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.  The change reflects the second largest percentage improvement within the Northeast Indiana Region.

The State of Indiana cautions readers that the data reflects "estimates" of the workforce and the reader should use caution if using the data to evaluate "economic change" within Counties.  The commuter trends are effected by the statistics.

The improvement in Huntington County is in part due to new hiring activity at Onward Manufacturing, Huntington County workers being called back to work at GM in Fort Wayne and Marion, and workers being recalled at other local industries.

"The unemployment situation is still obviously a tremendous concern," said Mark Wickersham, HCUED Executive Director.  "HCUED is doing everything we can to promote opportunities for job creation within Huntington County, but we are encouraged by the news," he added.
