May unemployment report released


The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released its May Unemployment Report. According to the state, Huntington County's unemployment rate stands at 5.2%, a slight increase from 4.9% for the previous month. 

The overall number of people in the labor force increased, as did the overall number of jobs in Huntington County, while the number of unemployed increased by 56 people. The reporting period does include the closure of the Kmart store in Huntington.

The overall jobs statistics are a significant improvement from one year ago when the rate was 7.2% and in June 2009 when the unemployment rate peaked at 14.3%. "The trend continues to be encouraging," said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development.
