March Unemployment at 2.4% April 27, 2022 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, recently released the March Unemployment Report. The rate among Huntington County residents was reported at 2.4% covering the period from February 11 through March 10, 2022. The rate compares to 3.7% one year ago and is slightly higher than the February rate of 2.3%. The total Labor Force and the Total Number Employed both increased in March (124 and 97 respectively) while 27 more people were counted among the unemployed. Job posting site Indeed.com reported 620 currently available jobs within 10 miles of Huntington County. This compares with 463 at the same time last year. "Our employers continue to experience labor shortages to some degree in Huntington County and Northeast Indiana," said Mark Wickersham, executive director for the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "Expansion activities among our local industrial community continue to be strong with projects under way at Ecolab, Innovative Packaging, ProMach/Shuttleworth, Singh Logistics and others," he said. "The retail and service sectors also are experiencing growth with the arrival of Harbor Freight and Planet Fitness to name a couple. Huntington has a very dynamic economy," he said. "Those projects combine with capital projects at Huntington University and Huntington County Community School Corporation reflect confidence in our local market," he concluded.
