New owners are in place at Huntington's Norwood Golf Club.

GDS LLC, made up of Lee and Stephanie Cutting, Kevin and Amanda Killen and Jason Kennedy officially became the club's new owner on July 1.

Kevin Killen serves as the president of the Huntington County Economic Development board of directors.

The group is the fourth owner of the course since it was built in the 1960s, says Cutting, who will serve as director of golf operations.

All three men are lifelong Huntington residents and Huntington North High School graduates, with Cutting and Kennedy spending their time there as members of the HNHS golf team.

"We grew up on Norwood Golf Club," Cutting says.

The new owners plan to slowly begin making improvements, he adds.

"We're looking to bring back the focus on youth involvement in golf, focus on a family type atmosphere," Cutting says.

In the '80s, Norwood was host to the Indiana Open, Cutting notes.

"Our main goal is to restore it to its glory days," Amanda Killen says.

The group's purchase includes all the buildings at Norwood.

Golf course hours will remain the same - from 7 a.m. to about 8:30 p.m., seven days a week- but extended hours will be put in place for the pub, which will take on a sports bar-type character. The group also plans to promote Norwood as a site for receptions and banquets.
Cutting says he welcomes suggestions from the community about what they'd like to see at Norwood in the way of changes or additional services.

Updates will be posted on the Norwood Golf Club Facebook page.

In celebration of the change in ownership, Norwood will offer free greens fees (cart rental is required) for Fourth of July weekend, Friday through Sunday. An open house will be held Aug. 9, with drinks, snacks and a live band.
