Gerdau to Invest $17.6 million at Huntington Plant

Huntington, Indiana –Gerdau Steel (http://www.gerdau.com) broke ground today on an expansion of their Huntington facility.  The Brazilian-based company is the leading producer of long steel in the Americas and one of the largest suppliers of specialty long steel in the world.  The Company has over 40,000 employees around the world with a presence in 14 countries, with operations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.  The Gerdau Huntington Facility is a division of Gerdau Special Steel North America.

Corporate and Community Officials were on hand today to celebrate the expansion.  The Company’s investment will retain 46 existing jobs and create 20 new jobs by the end of 2013.

“Huntington County Economic Development is pleased to have been able to assist with this project,” said Mark Wickersham, Executive Director.  “The economic development process is a ‘team sport’ and through our collaborative efforts, 35 industrial expansions or attraction projects over the last 3 and one-half years committing to over $129 million in investments have developed in Huntington County.  We are very proud of our employers and are available to help them be profitable,” he added.
