February unemployment picture improves in Huntington County

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development has released its unemployment report for February. According to the report, the unemployment rate for Indiana stood at 9.3%, down slightly from January's 9.6%. The data indicates the rate for Huntington County to be slightly below Indiana's rate at 9.2%, also slightly improved from January's county rate of 9.4%. The report covers the period January 11, 2013, to February 10, 2013.

"Employers' concerns about the federal 'fiscal cliff' continued as a barrier to planning decisions early this year," said Mark Wickersham, executive director, Huntington County Economic Development. "It's encouraging that the rate for Huntington County continues to be slightly below the statewide average. Historically, we've been nearly 2% higher than the statewide rate.

"There were 125 more jobs reported in February than January, and, at the same time, the total labor force increased by 98 more workers. While those aren't overwhelming statistics, they're at least headed in the right direction," Wickersham concluded.
