The local rate peaked in June of 2009 at 14.3% when 2,977 Huntington County residents were unemployed. "We've now experienced what I hope is a never to be repeated high rate (June 2009) as well as a new standard toward the full employment end of the spectrum (April 2015)," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "As long as the rate is above zero we know there is more to do to help create jobs. It is very encouraging though to see the trends stabilizing," Wickersham added.
