  4. 4th Consecutive Year Huntington Included Among the Top Micropolitan Economic Development Efforts

Site Selection Magazine Again Recognizes Huntington for Producing Results

March 26, 2025
Each year, the March issue of Site Selection Magazine, a publication of Atlanta, Georgia-based, Conway Data, ranks the best performing economic development efforts in the United States.  The rankings, published under the issue title, The (year, 2024 for example) Governor's Cups, evaluates States, Metropolitan Statistical Areas as well as Micropolitan Statistical Areas.  As defined by the White House Office of Management and Budget, a Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of a core urban area with a population of between 10,000 and 49,999, with adjacent counties having a high degree of economic activity and commuting patterns.  There are 538 Micropolitan Statistical Areas in the United States.

Huntington has been included among the Top 100 Micropolitan economic development programs by Site Selection Magazine based on productivity metrics including the number of million dollar projects, job creation, and square footage needed for the projects.  Site Selection Magazine has included Huntington in this prestigous list nine years since 2010 and now for the 4th consecutive year.  Huntington has ranked between 16th and 70th among the nation's 538 micropolitan statistical areas over the years, placing Huntington consistently among the top 20% of similar sized communities throughout the country.

Nine Indiana Communities were included for 2024:

Angola
Auburn
Crawfordsville
Huntington
Jasper
Kendallville
Plymouth
Richmond
Wabash

"It is an honor to make the list even once, let alone 9 times and 4 times consecutively," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation.  "Economic development is a team effort and Huntington continues to demonstrate that we have a great team," Wickersham added.  "I think it's impressive that 5 of the 9 Indiana communities which made the list are in northeast Indiana. We clearly benefit from the excellence of the communities around us," Wickersham concluded.
