Unemployment Rate Drops Again in September October 22, 2020 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the Unemployment Report for September. The rate for Huntington County was reported at 4.4%. This is down from April's record high of 20% at the height of the stay at home orders issued by the Governor in response to COVID-19. "This is the 5th consecutive month the rate, as anticipated, has improved," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "The outlook is very encouraging. I really appreciate the extraordinary efforts of our local employers and their teams," he added. "Until COVID-19 is a thing of the past, both the public health and economic productivity will be somewhat volatile. Any new Executive Orders by our Governor, intended to protect public health in response to surges in COVID-19 cases, will negatively impact the economy just as inaction resulting in a public health crisis would," concluded Wickersham. The job posting website Indeed.com reports 278 immediate job openings within 10 miles of downtown Huntington. The unemployment report for September indicated 795 unemployed workers in Huntington County. Click here to read the unemployment report.
