September Jobless Rate at 2.6% October 26, 2021 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the September 2021 Unemployment Report. The rate for Huntington County was reported at 2.6%. The September statistics reflect a significant drop in unemployment from the previous month. The rate in August was 4.9% compared to September's 2.6%. One year ago the rate was 4.5%. "Disruptions in the global supply chain resulted in the temporary increase in August. The September rate illustrates they've gone back to work, at least for now," said Mark Wickersham, executive director for the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation. "It's good news, but we will likely see temporary swings again as manufacturers adjust to market dynamics," he added. The State of Indiana saw unemployment rates by County range from a high of 6.7% to a low of 2%. The 2.6% jobless rate in Huntington County was among the lowest in the State in September. Job posting site Indeed.com reported 725 immediate job openings within 10 miles of Huntington. "The job openings number is the highest in 2021. Clearly, the combination of the low unemployment rate and the increasing number of available jobs demonstrates how competitive the jobs market is right now," Wickersham remarked.
