July Unemployment Slightly Lower

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released the July 2018 Unemployment Report.

The report lists the Huntington County Unemployment Rate at 3.7%, down slightly from June's 3.8%.

"The jobs picture in our County continues to be strong and we have an excellent workforce," said Mark Wickersham, executive director of the Huntington County Economic Development Corporation.  "We're continuing to work hard to promote new job opportunities in our County even in this tight labor market. While our rate is moving in the right direction, we're vulnerable to any number of market forces throughout the region," he added.

The unemployment rate in Huntington County remains slightly elevated compared to the region primarily as a result of the transition of manufacturing at UTEC.  Many of their former manufacturing associates are continuing their education and logically remain included in the unemployment data as a result.  Other events such as seasonal, planned shut-downs of employers throughout the region also effect residents of Huntington County.

"There are hundreds of job postings online with numerous job sites," said Wickersham.  "Job posting sites include listings for hundreds of available positions in Huntington County," he concluded.
