County's unemployment rate drops for September

The September 2014 unemployment rate in Huntington County was reported at 4.6% according to data released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. The rate is down slightly from the August report of 4.9%.

The rate for the period August 11 through September 10, 2014, is the lowest in 13 years, when it stood at 4.5% in October 2001.  One year ago, the rate was 6.3%. The report confirms that 166 more people are in the total labor force pool compared to one year ago, and 1,202 more people are now employed.

Recent articles in both the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette and the Greater Fort Wayne Business-Weekly report the manufacturing sector as the strongest job producer in northeast Indiana and the 2014 economic development projects in Huntington County align with the industrial sub-sectors reported by the media as having the most direct impact on the numbers.

"The September Unemployment Report is encouraging news for the economy of Huntington County," said Mark Wickersham, Executive Director, Huntington County Economic Development.
