August Unemployment at 3.9% September 23, 2024 Report The Indiana Department of Workforce Development in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, has released the August Unemployment Report. The rate for Huntington County was reported at 3.9%. The report covers the period from July 11, 2024 through August 10, 2024 and is based on the County where the worker lives, rather than the County where the employer is located. The Huntington County rate had temporarily spiked to 6.7% the previous month as a result of an extended holiday shut-down at General Motors Fort Wayne Assembly Plant, where nearly 500 Huntington County residents are employed. Those workers have been called back and the August report reflects a more normal picture in Huntington County. General Motors workers anticipate another temporary event yet this fall. The previous month, as a result of the situation at GM, Huntington County appeared to have the 3rd highest unemployment rate among Indiana Counties. The current report, with GM employees back on the job, places Huntington at 56 of the 92 Counties in Indiana, consistent with year to date statistics. Huntington is well below the State-wide unemployment average rate of 4.2% in August. According to job-posting site, Indeed.com, there are still over 200 jobs immediately available within 10 miles of Huntington. Click Here to Read the August Report
